Reiki and meditation: how they fit together

Many people describe Reiki self-practice as a kind of meditation with the hands. Both involve sitting quietly and bringing your attention back, again and again, to the present moment.

Gassho meditation (5 minutes)

  1. Sit comfortably with your back upright but relaxed.
  2. Bring your palms together in front of your chest.
  3. Rest your attention on the point where your middle fingers touch.
  4. When your mind wanders, gently bring it back. That’s the practice.

Gentle body scan (10 minutes)

Lie down and slowly move your attention from your feet up to the top of your head, noticing each area without trying to change it. You can rest a hand on any area as you go.

Making it a habit

  • Choose a regular time, such as just after waking or before bed.
  • Start with 5 minutes. Add time only if it feels easy.
  • Our videos page includes guided Gassho and body-scan sessions from independent creators.
